These barrels are a true match-grade barrel, we only have one grade
for all of our barrels, our best. All of these barrels are made
from 1" diameter 416 alloy rifle-barrel-quality stainless steel.
Every barrel is drilled, reamed and rifled in our shop followed
by a stress relieving heat treatment operation. They are then hand-
lapped for a superior internal finish and diameter uniformity. With
these drop-in barrels we then turn the shank end of the barrel to
the proper dimensions and cut
a true match chamber.
The barrel is then cut to final length and crowned with an 11 degree
target-type crown. Each barrel is then polished to a 600 grit exterior
finish and then our name and the cartridge designation is engraved
on the barrel. And lastly the finished barrel receives a final inspection
and is sealed in a 6 mil poly tube and placed on the shelf.
Our testing indicates that this new Remington action and our special
barrel contour are a very accurate combination. Shooting Eley EPS
ammo, Lapua Midas M, and Federal Gold Medal resulted in 5-shot groups
in the .2's at 50 yards.
Drop-in barrels do not require any special gunsmithing. Directions
for installing the barrel are furnished with each barrel. These
instructions can also be found directly below. If you do not feel
qualified to install your new drop-in barrel we can do so for a
$25 charge.
It is our understanding that the new Remington Model 547 is the
same action as the 504 and that 504 barrels are interchangeable.
Installation
Instructions
To remove original barrel:
1. Loosen the 10-32 crossbolt with a T-27 Torx head bit.
2. Loosen the 10-32 sockethead set screw using a 3/32" Allen
head wrench.
3. Pull barrel out of receiver. Note: the original set screw is
a pointed screw and has pushed up a dimple on the Remington barrel
shank. This dimple may prevent the barrel from pulling out easily.
It will come out though and this is the only impediment.
To install new barrel:
1. Slide the new barrel into receiver being careful to align the
pin at 6:00 in the receiver with the slot on bottom the side of
the barrel.
2. Insert a Go Gauge into the chamber and close the bolt leaving
it in the cocked position. A Go Gauge must be used to properly headspace
this barrel.
3. Push the new barrel into the receiver until it is stopped by
the Go Gauge.
4. Tighten the 10-32 set screw using a 3/32" Allen wrench.
5. Tighten the 10-32 crossbolt.
Note: The new barrel is furnished with a 10-32 x .500" long
socket head cap screw (use a 5/32" Allen wrench). You may replace
the 10-32 x .375" long Torx head crossbolt if desired. If you
do so, the longer length screw we furnish will engage more of the
threads in the receiver but it may also be necessary to remove a
small divot from the stock in the corresponding area.
We also furnish a new 10-32 x .250" long set screw with a
cup face to replace the pointed screw if desired. The barrel shank
on our replacement barrel has a flat milled where the set screw
engages the shank preventing the dimple problem with the original
barrel.
We offer a .043" Go Gauge made by
Pacific Precison for $19.
