AR Barrels: .223 and .204 Ruger Chamberings

As of January 2009 we are offering a threaded and finish chambered AR-15 type drop-in barrel. These barrels are available at this time in .223 and .204 Ruger. They are made from our 416 type stainless steel and rifled with a Special Forces-proven 8" twist in .223 and a 12" twist in .204 Ruger and like all of our barrels are hand-lapped.

The .223 version is chambered with a Wylde-type chamber and the .204 Ruger with a semi-auto match-type chamber. These barrels are threaded for and furnished with a pinned barrel extension with proper headspace and the gas port hole drilled and an 11º target crown. We are milling a narrow flat on the bottom side of the gas port section for set screws used with some types of gas blocks. This prevents marring of the .750" or .936" diameter by the set screws and helps align the gas block with the gas port hole.

The front section of the barrel is engraved with "Lilja AR .223 8T" or "Lilja .204 Ruger 12T". Just add your gas block and drop into your upper receiver.

This image shows the three AR-type contours that we are keeping in-stock as a drop-in type barrel. The top contour is our AR24 contour, the middle one is our AR740 with the Wasp weight reduction section turned on the .975" diameter. The bottom contour is the M-4.

Contour Specifications:

AR24: .975" diameter from the barrel extension to the gas block section, gas block section is turned to .936" diameter for a large gas block and the forward section is .875" diameter with a finished length of 23.5" including the barrel extension. This barrel uses a rifle-length gas system. Weight is 4.16 pounds. Engraved: Lilja AR .223 8T

We have made a small run of these that are fluted. There are five flutes on the front section, leaving a missing flute where the barrel is engraved and six flutes on the back section. The weight is 3.84 pounds. The price is $590 or $525 with the quantity pricing.

AR740: .975" diameter in front of the barrel extension with the Wasp section turned to a diameter of .750" and then tapering back up to .975" diameter at the gas block. The gas block section is turned to .750" and from the gas block to the muzzle the diameter is .740". The barrel length is 20" including the barrel extension and is set for a rifle-length gas system. The muzzle end is threaded .500" x 28 TPI (threading is not shown in this image). Weight is 2.60 pounds. Engraved: Lilja AR .223 8T

M4: .975" diameter for 2" then a radius down to .850" diameter to the .750" diameter gas block section. From the gas block to the muzzle the diameter is .725". Barrel length is 17" including the M4-type barrel extension and the M4 barrels are furnished with a .500" x 28 TPI x .600" long threaded muzzle. The gas system is carbine-length. This barrel profile is an exact copy of one we've made for the US Navy SEALS. Weight is 2.18 pounds. Engraved: Lilja M4 .223 8T

As of October 2011 we are now offering a fluted version of the M4 in .223. The contour is the same as the M4 described above and like our other fluted AR type barrels there is a fluted section in front of and behind the gas block area except where the barrel is engraved. The weight is 2.0 pounds.

Short Barreled Rifles (SBR)

We've been asked about making AR type barrels shorter than 16" for SBR's. The short answer is no, we won't make sub-16" long barrels. The ATF views SBR's similar to supressors and a $200 tax is paid on the AR lower receiver. The lower is registered with ATF and a barrel manufacturer would need a copy of the owner's paper work on the lower to make a SBR barrel. We don't want to go through the trouble involved in this niche market and will not make barrels shorter than 16".
