.22 Rimfire Barrel Contour DataFor .22 rimfire barrels we often make a straight cylinder barrel. For example the smaller rimfire receivers will usually accept a barrel that is between .850" diameter and 1" in diameter and usually these are left straight with no taper. For rimfire recievers with a larger front ring we often make a two diameter barrel. For example the chamber end could be 1.200" in diameter for 3" and then a drop down to .875" diameter with no taper in the .875" diameter section. There would be a small radius where the two diameters meet. These contours are specified in our special rimfire .pdf file. Listed below are our standard contours and straight tapers. The above contours listed are our standard contours. Our standard length contoured and straight taper barrels listed above are furnished 28" long, with 27" useable. All contoured barrels have a taper of .008" per inch, so the muzzle diameter for a shorter barrel would be proportionately larger. The radius of the contoured section is 30", tangent to the barrel at the "B" dimension point. On request we can make barrels of #4 contour or larger up to a 30" finish length (see pricing). Fluting is available on these contours down to a #5 contour. The #4 can be fluted in calibers under .30 caliber. Estimating Weights. The weights listed above are for a 27" long barrel in .30 caliber. For estimating the weights of shorter barrels, subtract the figure in the weight-per-inch column from the weight in the 27" length column. For example the weight for a 27" #5 contour is listed above at 4.00 pounds. For a 24" length: 4.00 - (3 x .087) = 3.74 pounds. Keep in mind that these are approximate weights and that calibers other than .30 will weigh more or less. At a 27" length a .224 caliber barrel will weigh .247 pounds more than a .30 caliber barrel. Threading and chambering would typically reduce the weight by about .20 pounds. The weight removed by fluting depends on the caliber, contour and finish length. On a typical #5 contour with a 26" finish length, in .30 caliber fluting would remove about .50 pounds, reducing it to about the weight of a #4 contour. Our normal stopping point for flutes at the muzzle end of the barrel is 1.5" short of the requested finish length. Please inquire about your specific dimensions. We work from across-the-flats dimesions. For more information on octagon barrels - Click Here. Straight Taper Benchrest Barrels:
The two HV taper barrels above have a taper of .015" per inch. The NBRSA Hunter taper is .024" per inch. Our standard length barrels are furnished 28" long and will finish up to 27". On request we can make them up to a 30" finish length (see pricing). All three of these straight taper barrels can be fluted.
